Grease is still the word in the West End

Grease has become the longest running show at the West End’s Piccadilly Theatre after marking its second anniversary and passing the 800 performance mark. It is currently booked up until September of 2010.

The lead actor, Ray Quinn, who portrays Danny, has signed on to perform in the show until November 28th playing opposite to Emma Stephens as Sandy who happens to be his sweetheart in real life as well. Stephens is known for her work on stage in Saturday Night Fever and Starlight Express.

Quinn began his work on the Grease stage as the character Doody and began acting on ‘Brookside,’ a Channel 4 soap opera. Other credits include an appearance on “The X-Factor’ in 2006, an appearance and win on “Dancing on Ice” in March 2009, and a bestselling platinum album titled “Doing It My Way” in 2007.

The success of Grease on the West End stage has led digital television Channel Sky 1 to begin work on a series titled “Grease: The School Muscial” which will document the production of a school in Northeast England, Wallasey School, as they prepare for their own musical production. The show is set to air in August and follows the entire process up until its debut on a professional stage.

The television series will be hosted by Duncan James and includes the aid of Zoe Taylor as vocal coach who is also working closely with the West End production team of Grease.
