Streatham Park Cemeterys monument will soon be refurbished and restored due to a generous grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
The 50,000 pound grant will go towards restoring the monument where many of the best comedians, actors, acrobats, singers, and dancers are buried including Arthur Albert, Tom Leamore, Johnny Danvers, and Tom Costello.
The monument was first built in the Streatham Park Cemetery in 1924 with funding from the Variety Artistes Benevolent Fund and is maintained currently by the Music Hall Guild of America and Great Britain.
Adrian Berry, director of the Guild, stated that with the funds the group intends to improve and restore public access to the memorial. They also plan to turn the VABF chapel into a commemorative exhibition that honours the lives of performers buried in the cemetery
