Rylance will replace Briers in Endgame

Mark Rylance will soon take on the role of Hamm in Endgame replacing Richard Briers who pulled out of the original cast. Rylance is not a stranger to the theatre, as he has several awards to his name including a Tony and an Olivier.

Director of Endgame, Simon McBurney, is also stepping up to the plate to take over the role of Cloy in Endgame after former cast member Adrian Scarborough also reportedly stepped out of the production.

According to a statement issued by the producers of the play, Scarborough left as a result of time management issues and felt that it was best to leave the stage early although he was scheduled to play the role until October 23rd.

Richard Briers soon after announced he would leave the stage as well since he had originally only joined the production to fulfil his goal of performing as Hamm opposite Scarborough.

Those who purchased tickets to Endgame in advance with the sole purpose of attending Endgame to watch Scarborough and Briers perform side by side can return their tickets at the place of purchase up until October 2, 2009 for a full refund.

Due to the shift in casting roles, the show will now open on October 15th at the Duchess Theatre instead of on September 18th as planned originally. It will preview on October 2nd and have a full run up until December 5th.

The production team of Nica Burns and Max Wietzenhoffer of Complicite is responsible for Endgame.
