Special 40s fashion performance of Carrie?s War

Carrie?s War, a stage adaptation of the wartime drama by Nina Bawden, is set to hold a special showing at the Apollo Theatre on Sept. 3rd to mark the anniversary of the beginning of World War II.

Tickets for the production will only cost five pence (a shilling) on that date for the show that begins at 19:00. In order to get the special price viewers must be among the first 100 people to show up at the theatre dressed in clothing from the 1940s.

The novel Carrie?s War was originally written back in 1973 and is composed of Bawden?s experiences in Wales as an evacuee during the war.

It focuses on the central character of Carrie Willow and her brother Nick who are forced to leave London and stay with a strict older man and his nicer sister in the South Wales mining valleys. It is here that the main characters meet a witch, Mrs. Gotobed, and an eccentric man learn of an ancient skull that carries a curse.

The stage version of the novel stars Sarah Edwardson in the role of Carrie, Kacey Ainsworth, as the kind sister, and Prunella Scales as Mrs. Gotobed.

The play originally opened on June 24th at the Apollo and will continue to run until September 12th.
