The New Year will open in the West End with Lesley Sharp slated to play the role of Ms. Alving in the 1881 classic Henrik Ibsens Ghosts. Sharp will appear alongside Iain Glen starting February 23, 2010 and running until May 15, 2010 at the Duchess Theatre.
Ghosts takes place in Norwood in the country house off Mrs. Alving as she prepares to open an orphanage to pay tribute to her husband who has passed away. The show is based upon the return of her son Oswald who brings with him hosts of the past which haunt the family throughout the entire play.
Sharp was nominated last year for Harper Regan and will join the cast of Ghosts straight from the close of The Rise and Fall of Little Voice which ends on January 20th, 2010. Past credits in film include The Full Monty, Vera Drake, and Naked.
Iain Glen will take on the role of Oswald and has past acting credits that include roles in The Blue Room, The Man Who Had All the Luck, Hedda Gabler, Wallenstein, and A Streetcar Named Desire.
Ghosts has not been performed in the West End since 2001 at the Comedy Theatre with Francesca Annis leading the cast.
Currently slated for the Duchess Theatre is Samuel Beckett?s Endgame which will run from October 2nd until December 5th.
