Shawshank Redemption begins run

After a bestselling novel and an Oscar award winning play it is only right that Owen O?Neill and Dave Johns finally adapted a stage version of The Shawshank Redemption. Obviously, they were not the only two people who thought so as the opening of the Novella Theatre production in the West End was sold out.

The play is based on the novella of the same name that was written by Stephen King in 1982 and made into a feature film in 1994 with stars Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins.

The play will officially opened on September 13th and will continue to run a full length season with its last date on Feburary 14th 2010.

The stars of the theatre version are Reg E Cathey and Kevin Anderson playing the roles of Andy and Ellis who are two inmates who meet in prison who form a lifelong friendship even though one is framed and the other is actually guilty.

Although the story is not one that is filled with hope, the characters give you hope in the human spirit and the ability to withstand even the worst circumstances which is perhaps all King meant to say back in his novel.
