The Donmar has 99 percent full, audience figures

The Donmar theatre has enjoyed scintillating success in the West End this season. With four major productions, all of them being new, the Donmar was able to draw huge audiences and almost all the shows were played to 98%-99% of total audience capacity.

Directed by Michael Grandage, the West End season had a successful run featuring Jude Law in Hamlet, Judi Dench in Madame de Sade, and Derek Jacobi in Twelfth Night.

The most striking of them all was Hamlet, where Jude Law delivered a glittering performance, almost all the seats were taken during the shows; the number is an astounding 99% of total capacity.

The tickets were priced fairly low, with the highest being ?31.50. It was a risk taken by the Donmar, in order to draw a wide range of audience types, and they were successful to a great extent. Their productions were able to draw in almost 10,000 school kids, not to mention more than 40,000 tickets were sold at ?9.80.

It is no wonder why artistic director Michael Grandage, the mastermind behind the whole plan, was so fervid in expressing his utter joy of this season?s astonishing success. He thanked everyone involved for rising up to the challenge, and expressed his extreme delight in seeing the upsurge in theatre goers.
