We Will Rock You is set to enter its eighth year, as the Ben Elton Queen musical has been slated to run throughout October 2010 at the Dominion Theatre.
The show first opened in May of 2002 at the Dominion, and is based loosely around 24 of the hits from Queen. It has been described in the past as a rock phenomenon in a theater setting and the title of ‘London’s Greatest Night Out.’
While the show was only slated to run in England for two years it has since then seen its run extended an additional ten times while the Toronto production has extended its run 17 times.
The UK tour of the musical has also announced that it will continue to run into 2010 with an additional stop in Dublin.
Currently, the audience count for the rocking musical stands at 4.6m in London alone and an additional ten million at least for worldwide views. In the future these numbers are expected to increase as a production opens in Milan in December and two more throughout Europe next year.
Brian May of Queen stated that their show has come of age and that the entire band is happy to see that it is one of the biggest success stories on the London stage.
The London production team also announced that there will be additional showings throughout the New Year and Christmas holiday period, as well as matinees during the New Year week.
