Pick Up Your Ears is set to close early in the West End after Matt Lucas pulled out of the cast and ticket sales began to drop drastically.
Lucas withdrew from the pay suddenly after his past civil partner Kevin McGee committed suicide a little less than a month from its opening.
In his place Tony winner Con O’Neill was chosen to take on the role until the play closed.
Although the production received rave reviews from critics producers declared that the low ticket sales forced them to end the play early at the Comedy Theatre.
A statement from the producers said that due to the low box office sales it is not financially possible to keep the show running. Thus, the show will end three weeks earlier than scheduled.
McGee was found dead on Oct. 5th in Edinburgh after leaving behind a Facebook message stating he believed death is better than life.
Lucas was said to be destroyed by the death of McGee even though the two had broken their civil union this past January.
