The first West End production of a Harold Pinter play is set to run at Trafalgar Studios from January 12- April 17, 2010 following the death of Harold Pinter in December of 2008.
The Caretaker will star Jonathon Pryce and will open on January 18, 2010. The play is considered to mark the arrival of Harold Pinter as a notable playwright when it first was produced back in 1960. This year’s production in fact will not only mark the first production since Pinter’s death, but also the 50th anniversary of the play.
Pryce takes on the role of Davies who is taken in by a man named Aston. Then Aston’s brother Mick enters the picture and the tale of jealousy and tension create a dramatic comedy as the audience waits to find out who will end up being the odd man out.
Among the many accolades already won by Jonathon Pryce for his past performances are Tony Awards for Comedians and Miss Saigon. He also has received an Oliver award for Hamlet.
Pryce also has taken on a large number of roles in other theatre productions including the role of Mick in a 1980 version of the National Theatre’s production of the Caretaker.
Also featured in the cast is Peter McDonald who takes on the role of Aston who is known for his work in film such as Spooks, The Damned United, and Green Wing.
Directing will be Christopher Morahan who has worked with numerous plays that have shown at the National Theatre, the Royal Shakespeare Company, and the West End.
