Jerry Springer to debut in “Chicago”

Jerry Springer is all set to make his West End début in the hit musical “Chicago”. He will take on the part of “Billy Flynn” in the show, which will play at the Cambridge Theatre from the 1st of June to the 11th of July. Prior to the opening of “Chicago”, “Jerry Springer: The Opera”, an award-winning musical based on Springer’s television show, played at the same venue.

The American talk show host and entertainer was born in London. He is famous around the world for his eponymous and often controversial show. In addition to hosting a talk show, Springer has also been an award-winning newscaster and a country music artist. In another aspect of his career, he is recognised as a political analyst and even served as the mayor of Cincinnati.

Today, Springer is a frequent speaker at colleges all over the US, including Harvard, Georgetown and Yale. His appearance the Oxford union in 2000 broke all records for attendance. As an author, he published his autobiography, titled “Ringmaster”, in 1998.

“Chicago”, which is the longest running Broadway musical in the West End, celebrated its 11th anniversary in 2008. The show originally opened as the Adelphi theatre in 1997, from where it was transferred to the Cambridge Theatre in 2006.

The opening received rave reviews and the show went on to become a major long-running success.

The show has won numerous accolades, including a Lawrence Olivier award for “Outstanding Musical Production”. It is produced in London by Barry and Fran Weissler and currently plays in New York, Denmark and Japan, with upcoming productions in Korea, Holland and Australia.

Tickets to the show, priced £25.00 – £59.00, can be bought at the Cambridge Theatre box office on 0844 412 4652. The show plays at 8.00 PM Mondays to Thursdays, with Friday performances at 5.00pm and 8.30pm and Saturday performances at 3.00pm and 8.00pm.
